ABSTRACT

After the invasion of Okinawa Prefecture, Japan by HLB in 1988, Okinawa Prefectural Government has been struggling against HLB. Among citrus cultivars that are growing in Okinawa, Shiikuwasha is most important, but has been heavily damaged by HLB. To protect Shiikuwasha production from the disease, emphasis is put on the following three aspects: putting an effort into the quick detection and removal of infected trees, the control of a psyllid vector of HLB, and the production of HLB-free trees. Establishment of an IPM system for stable citrus fruit production in future is eagerly desired.
