ABSTRACT

In Thailand, recent adoption and rapid expansion of pesticide-free crop production, alternative and organic agriculture have led to the exploration and exploitation of non-chemical technology adopting the natural or organic inputs to increase crop productivity which will be acceptable to small farmers and is on a sustainable basis. The adoption and use of bioagents such as biofertilizers and biopesticides have become extensive nationwide and is gaining its momentum. Both the indigenous knowledge and technical expertise have been employed in the development of such bioagents, whether it is technically sound and/or acceptable or not. Although a relatively substantial progress has been achieved technically and socio-economically, there is yet an impediment and a constraint in the regulation and commercialization of these environmentally sound and friendly bioagents. There is an urgent need to explore fully both the indigenous knowledge and the technical expertise for future development of biofertilizers and biopesticides in the country.
